Malé, Maldives – MTCC has launched a cash card payment service for Raajje Transport Link (RTL), bus tickets.
Contactless credit and debit MasterCard and Visa cards will now be used to purchase the tickets of all public transport buses in the Malé area.
Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the service, the company’s CEO Adam Azim said that this service was much needed by the people.
Azim also added that the introduction of “contactless” cards on RTL buses will make bus travel more convenient.
According to Azim, buses tickets can be purchased by cash, application-based QR code travel and Visa and MasterCard payments.
Azim said they are working to introduce this service in other parts of the country. There are difficulties in this regard but we are working to do it as soon as possible, he said.
Azim said that in addition to the service, a prepaid card will be introduced in the future. It is a service that allows you to recharge your card online. With the introduction of prepaid cards, unlike existing bus cards, customers can recharge from anywhere instead of going to separate MTCC counters.
MTCC has brought in 36 mini buses to launch the RTL bus service. Of these, 12 will be used in Malé City. They have a capacity of 20 passengers and wheelchair access.
The minibus service is available daily from 05:45am to 00:15pm at a price of MVR 7 per ride.
Children under the age of three and those over the age of 65 can travel free of charge on presentation of an ID card. People with disabilities will be able to travel free of charge on presentation of their National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) cards. There will be no charge for students in uniform.
