Foreigner positive for Covid-19 after returning from Maldives

A foreign individual has been reported to have tested positive for Covid-19 after returning from the Maldives.

In a statement released by Health Protection Agency (HPA) of Maldives, the agency revealed that two resorts, Joali Maldives and Raa Bodufushi have been placed under monitoring, after a foreign national who visited both islands tested positive for upon return to their home country.

Contact tracing efforts are underway in both islands, and are likely to be in monitoring status until further notice from authorities.

So far 19 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the Maldives, out of which two were discovered to be infected after their departure from the country.

At the moment, only 4 individuals are in treatment, who tested positive for the virus upon their return from the UK, while 13 have made a full recovery, with no reports of death relating to the coronavirus in the Maldives as of now.

In efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the country, the Maldivian government has started to quarantine all individuals arriving into the country, as well as temporarily stopping the issuing of on arrival visa into the country.
