Male’, Maldives – A man accused of sexually abusing a minor has been released by court, despite the provision of sufficient evidence against him, citing that the crime is not included as a “big crime”, and hence serves no room hold him in remand further.
The man arrested on 28th of May, was initially held on remand for 15 days, of which upon completion, Maldives Police Service requested an extension of remand. However, the court only granted an additional 10 days.
It can be known from the Criminal Court order today, that the initial orders to not hold the criminal in remand for the entire duration of the court case was not appealed by either party.
The order today, read that the crime committed by the accused is not listed as a big crime in the Judicature Act of Maldives.
