130kg drug bust: Criminal Court further remands a suspected mastermind

Malé, Maldives — The Criminal Court further extends the remand of a suspected mastermind of smuggling 130kg of drugs via sea route.

After the first remand of five days expired for the suspected mastermind Ahmed Moosa, he was presented to the Criminal Court on Sunday to take a decision on his remandment. Instead of releasing the suspect, the Criminal Court ordered to extend his remand by an additional 15 days to further proceed the drug investigation.

On Monday, a special police operation held on Hulhumalé led to a drug bust of 130kg from a boat that was docked near the island. The 130kg of illegal drugs that were found were of both heroin and methamphetamine.

As per the details revealed, the seven who were arrested in connection to the crime include of a minor and six individuals between the ages of 25 and 48, all of whom were local men.

While the Juvenile Court remanded the minor for 10 days, a 15-day remand was issued for the remaining suspects.

According to the information given by the Maldives Police Service, the drug operation was conducted after they recieved reports of a major drug shipment that was heading towards the island nation. The drugs were being smuggled into the country by local drug dealers with the help of foreigners.
