MET office warns of wave surges around the country

Male’, Maldives – Maldives Meteorological Center (MET) has warned of possible wave surges throughout the country today.

In the announcement released, MET office has warned of possible surges and over toppings during high tide and also warned that waves might reach between 3 feet to 6 feet high. In addition to this there is possibility of scattered showers and thunderstorms to some parts of the country as well.

Northern and central atolls might experience winds between 13 miles to 23 miles per hour in speed while the southern atolls might experience winds up to 5 miles to 15 miles per hour. The wind is expected to reach speeds up to 50 miles per hour during thunderstorms.

As a general advice, those who are traveling by sea are advised to be cautious and wear safety vests at all times while on board.
