Two new resorts declared quarantine facilities

Male’, Maldives – The government of Maldives has declared two new resorts, M. Medhufushi and F. Filitheyo as quarantine facilities.

While the government currently has four existing quarantine facilities, Bandos, Eriyadhoo, Fun Island and Royal Island which are also resorts, it is believed that the government took on two more resorts as quarantine facilities due to the continuous increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in the country.

Although government is yet to comment on the matter officially, it is believed that more details will be released on the situation at a press conference to be held by Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC) at 16:00 today.

At present the total number of infected people in the country has topped 4000, with more than 1400 active cases and 92 requiring hospitalized care. The daily infection rates have also started topping 100.

With this, Health Protection Agency (HPA) has taken several measures to reduce the movement of people in the Male’ region including limiting the number of people who can gather around in groups to 30, and closing down government offices for the week as wells closing down the schools of the region for two weeks.
