Maldives appoints new Tourism Minister

Male’, Maldives – President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed former Ambassador of Maldives to Singapore, Dr. Mausoom Abdullah as the new Tourism Minister of the Maldives.

Dr. Mausoom, who was appointed as the Maldivian Ambassador to Singapore on 18th February, 2019 was appointed as the Tourism Minister of Maldives on Thursday afternoon during a small ceremony which was held in the President’s Office.

The spot for Tourism Minister became vacant following the removal of former Tourism Minister of Maldives, Ali Waheed from office due to serious sexual harassment allegations against him by his then employees, during last month. Following his removal, Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail was tasked with looking over the Ministry.

Dr. Mausoom who belongs for Jumhooree Party had previously filled office as the Tourism Minister of the country during the regime of former President Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom as well. He was also the Vice President of Jumhooree Party, prior to his appointment as the Ambassador to Singapore, after which he stepped down from the party’s position.

Mausoom is also well known to have voiced out against the former President Yameen Abdul Qayyooms’s administration.
