Covid-19 facility to be built in Gdh. Thinadhoo

Male, Maldives – Local reports have surfaced that the President of Maldives, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has decided to  have a Covid-19 facility established in Gdh. Thinadhoo.

Local media outlet “Sangu TV” reported that MP of South Thinadhoo constituency, Abdullah Saneef, has confirmed the establishment of a Covid-19 medical facility in Gdh. Thinadhoo has in fact, been approved by the President. It has also been detailed that the decision was made following the incident which took place in GA. Villingili, regarding a patient from Thinadhoo.

On Monday, a patient who tested postive for Covid-19 in Gdh. Thinadhoo, was transported to GA. Villingili, where the Covid-19 medical facility for the region was established. However, upon entering the harbour of Villingili, the patient was denied entry on to the island as locals of the island protested, which police failed to control, despite their attempts.

The patient was eventually transported back to Thinadhoo, after having have been made to wait in the sea ambulance for hours. The patient was later transported to Male’ for further treatment.

Speaking on the matter, Saneef said that although a new facilities cannot be built, the efforts on locating a building which can be used as a medical facility will begin tomorrow, and that the country can only overcome situations such as this, with the support and cooperation among the people.

Saneef thanked the President for the decision and swift action.
