Malé, Maldives — According to the Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC), no Covid-19 community spread have been detected in Hoandehdhoo island of Gaafu Dhaalu atoll.
Up to date, a total of 37 Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in the island of which four people who were currently under home quarantine had tested positive on September 3. The remaining 33 individuals were identified as their contacts. The individuals were reported after two unlinked cases were confirmed.
According to Dr. Nazla, the conclusion that there has been no community spread was taken after conducting random sampling on the island. She said that a number of people from the island had been tested during this process and that all samples had come back negative.
Dr. Nazla stressed that all the confirmed cases have been linked to contacts, adding that it can only be described as a community spread “if the virus is spreading among people with no links to previous cases”.
