Male’, Maldives – Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has conducted 100,000 Covid-19 tests as of Thursday.
In a press statement released by the hospital, IGMH stated that it started testing for Covid-19 on 29th February and that the hospital’s lab has been conducting the tests everyday since the first outbreak of Covid-19 was identified in the Maldives.
The hospital also revealed that initially, the hospital’s Covid-19 team only comprised of three members, which had to be made bigger into a team of 22 as the number of the coronavirus cases increased in the country.
Currently the laboratory capacity of the hospital stands at 1500 tests per every 24 hours, which the hospital says, is the result of modern technology in sample extraction and testing as well as training of the employees.
IGMH highlighted that the laboratory employees of the hospital are at the forefront of the Covid-19 response efforts, and thanked them for their service.
