Haa Alif Atoll, Maldives — The Ministry of Tourism opens bid application on Monday to develop a tourist hotel and a yacht marina in the inhabited island of Haa Alif Atoll, Uligan.

A land plot of 36 hectares have been allocated by the Maldivian government for this project, therefore, any investor who wish to purchase the Bid Document may download the application form from the website of tourism industry,
www.tourism.gov.mv.

Apart from the website, the Bid Document will also be available at the reception of the ministry, everyday -except on government holidays- starting from October 11, between the hours 0900 – 1300.

The bid is open for both local and foreign investors and those who are eligible for it are required to attend the information session that will be held at the ministry at 1300 hrs on October 22. They are also required to submit their bid proposals before 1000 hrs of November 5.

Although, the project to develop a city hotel and yacht marina in Uligan was initially handed over to Maldives Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) by the government, the project was later halted due to several reasons. Unfortunately, at the time, approximately USD 4.5 million (MVR 69.4 million) had been spent on to complete 80 percent of the hotel’s staff area, and majority of the guest spaces as well.

Uligan is well known as a destination for yachts in Maldives. Therefore, it has been a longstanding dream of the residents of Uligan to establish a yacht marina. A dream that the current president Ibrahim Solih had pledged to fulfill.
