MP Shareef injured in road accident

Male’, Maldives – MP of Maradhoo constituency, of Addu City, Ahmed Shareef (Mavota) met with an accident on Wednesday evening, and is reported to have gotten injuring in the crash.

According to a tweet sent out by his daughter, Shareef was involved in an accident while out on a motorcycle, during the evening hours of Wednesday, when a taxi hit he cycle from behind, causing the accident. She revealed that he sustained injuries and that he is recovering at home.

She pointed out that people were quick to held and that the family is extremely grateful for the help. She also thanked those who showered Shareef and his family with well wishes in a separate tweet she sent out afterwards.

This comes months after Shareef revealed that he has been receiving threatening messages, claiming to take his life, upon which he had requested security. Shareef also publicized the number from which he was contacted multiple times with the threats. The matter was later handed over to the Ministry of Defense, by the Parliament, as the ministry overlooks all security aspects of the Members of the Parliament.

It is unknown whether the accident on Wednesday has anything to do with the threats Shareef received in February. No official comment has been made by Maldives Police Service on the matter as of now.
