Hulhumale’ drug bust: Shaheeb suspended from PNC council

Male’, Maldives – Shaheeb Ibrahim has been suspended from the council of the opposition party, People’s National Congress (PNC).

Shaheeb, who was revealed to have been arrested by Maldives Police Service, was suspended for his major involvement in a drug case as he was arrested with 130 kilos of drugs along with other people in a drug bust operation in Hulhumale’. PNC said that Shaheeb has been suspended until a final verdict is passed regarding the case.

According to the police, Shaheeb played a major role in importing the drugs to Maldives along with 48 year old Ahmed Moosa of Violet Villa, HA.Hoarafushi. in addition to this, police said that Shaheeb is also suspected to have connection with an confiscated boat of Iran that was accused of trying to import drugs into Maldives back in 2019.

Amongst the people arrested in the drug bust operation in Hulhumale’, was a minor was ordered to be held in remand for 10 days by the Juvenile Court of Maldives, while Shaheeb was ordered to be held in remand for 15 days. Shaheeb’s associate Ahmed Moosa, however, got a remand duration of only five days.. The remaining four people arrested in the operation were also ordered to be remanded for a period of 15 days. Meanwhile, the case is being further investigated by Drug Enforcement Department.
