Public invited to witness disposal of 200kg drugs

Male’, Maldives – Maldives Police Service has opened opportunities for the general public to witness and observe the disposal of 200kg of drugs that were confiscated during the drug operations held on September and October.

These drugs were confiscated by the Police Intelligence and Police in three different drug operations they held over the past months. These include of 3kg and 800g of drugs police confiscated from Bangladeshi and Maldivian men who were attempting to smuggle drugs into the country via the Dhaka route on September 08.

In addition to this, police also confiscated 79kg of drugs that were being smuggled into the country by Abdullah Ibrahim from S. Hithadhoo along with multiple others on October 1st. The police also caught Shaheeb Ibrahim from Ga. Villingili attempting to smuggle 120kg of drugs into the atolls with the help of several others on October 12.

Police informed that anyone who wishes to observe the disposal of these drugs may register their names before 1200hrs of December 27. They are required to send in their full name, ID card number and contact number to media@police.gov.mv and the opportunity would be given based on the order of email they receive to a limited number of observers.

The disposal of 200kg of drugs are planned to be carried out at Dhoonidhoo island nearby Male’ city on 29th this month.

Maldives Police Service has been increasing drug related operations since the new government came in to power and have carried out several successful drug sting operations throughout the Maldives.
