More than 200 kilos of drugs incinerated by Police

Male’, Maldives – Maldives Police Service (MPS) have destroyed more than 203 kilograms of various drugs today that they seized during operations between September and October of this year.

The drugs were destroyed earlier today at Dhoonidhoo, with media and 4 public observers allowed to attend. These observers were allowed to ask questions on the process, and drugs they pointed out were tested to find the drug type.

These drugs were confiscated by the Police Intelligence and Police in three different drug operations they held over the past months. These include of 3kg and 800g of drugs police confiscated from Bangladeshi and Maldivian men who were attempting to smuggle drugs into the country via the Dhaka route on September 08.

In addition to this, police also confiscated 79kg of drugs that were being smuggled into the country by Abdullah Ibrahim from S. Hithadhoo along with multiple others on October 1st. The police also caught Shaheeb Ibrahim from Ga. Villingili attempting to smuggle 120kg of drugs into the atolls with the help of several others on October 12.

These included 224 rubber packages from 65 evidences, that police reveal to be 15,8188.7 grams of heroin, 3,788.4 grams of cannabis, 41,090.6 grams of methamphetamine and 41 other items, which has an estimated street value of MVR 203,123,830.

The incineration today was carried out following the laws regarding items confiscated as evidence in drug cases under the committee made by the Prosecutor General.
