GA. Atoll, Maldives— Progressive Congress Coalition has donated 4,000 masks to the Dhevvadhoo island in Gaafu Alifu Atoll that is currently in monitoring status due to a Covid-19 community spread in the island.

The masks were donated by the current President of People’s National Congress (PNC), Abdul Raheem Abdulla (Adhurey) and was received by the treasurer of PPM/PNC Steering Committee in Dhevvadhoo, Thauheed Saleem.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) recently informed that Dhevvadhoo had confirmed additional 11 positive Covid-19 cases taking the total in the island to 54 cases within weeks.

They also noted that the massive cluster created in Dhevvadhoo is linked to over 100 high risk individuals which includes a 68 and 79 year olds. Till date, HPA has traced 250 contacts from the island.

HPA has stated that that Dhevvadhoo will be under monitoring status until the community spread in the island clears and the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases decrease.

The agency has also urged everyone that travelled from GA. Dhehvadhoo after the 30th of November 2020 to quarantine at once and to submit samples for Covid-19 tests as soon as possible.

Health officials have also requested that these individuals not to go outside for school, work or other purposes till their test results are confirmed negative. Along with this, the Dhevvadhoo Council has advised all residents to take precautionary measures and stay home, and to adhere to the instructions of the health authorities.
