Dhevvadhoo cluster: 69 positive Covid-19 cases

GA. Atoll, Maldives— The Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC) informs that 69 people have tested positive for the Covid-19 virus to date from the cluster case in GA. Dhevvadhoo.

Of the 69 Covid-19 cases, 55 cases were recorded from Dhevvadhoo, 04 cases from  L. Fonadhoo, 02 cases each from Hulhumale’ and GA. Villingili.

The President of the Dhevvadhoo council, Ibrahim Thaufeeq informed that majority of the confirmed Covid-19 cases from this cluster are elderly people and children.

Thaufeeq mentioned that the authorities have collected up to 400 samples from the island to test for Covid-19, and that healthcare workers are currently working on contact tracing and collecting more samples from the island community. He noted that the citizens are cooperating well with the council and adhering to the health and safety measures in place due to the community spread. Thaufeeq reported that overall, the Covid-19 situation in the island is currently manageable.

While noting that there are several families that are in need of food, essential medications, water supply and other necessities, he highlighted the constant support, assistance and essentials from islands in the atoll.
