Addu City, Maldives- Deputy Mayor of Addu City Mohamed Yasrif has resigned from his post.

He has reportedly made this move to become the director of the Secretariat of the Addu City Council’s Projects and Planning department, as Civil Service laws state that posts can only be taken after resigning from an individuals current job.

Yasrif, who has been the Deputy Mayor of Addu City since 2017, will reportedly turn in his letter of resignation sometime tomorrow.

While Yasrif did attempt to extend his term in office and contend in the upcoming local council elections, he did not get selected in Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) primary elections for the region.
