All government staffs are ready for local council election campaign: President Solih

Malé, Maldives – President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that all government staffs are ready for the upcoming local council elections campaign.

President Solih made the statement while speaking at MDP’s parliament meeting last night. The President stated that himself and the government are prepared to create spare time for the upcoming elections campaign. He added that the Ministers and all other government officials are prepared to do all the necessary work to win the upcoming elections.

In addition to this, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said that he expects for MDP to win 80 percent of the chairs in the upcoming elections. He said that MDP succeeded 57 percent in the presidential elections and later 75 percent of the chairs in the parliament elections. He anticipated that the governing party will win with over 75 percent this time.

I expect our win to be over 75 percent. I anticipate that with God’s grace, MDP will win over 80 percent of the chairs in the upcoming local council elections.

President Solih further said that it is necessary to win the council elections in order to succeed the decentralisation process, while noting that the decentralisation must be managed by someone who has knowledge of it and is capable to implement with the massive changes brought to the decentralisation law.

Further speaking, President noted that MDP is up for the task and that the benefit of the new authority, both financially and administrative, can reach the citizens only if MDP wins the local council and WDC elections. The elections are now scheduled to be held on 10 April 2021.
