No fines for work permit fees until March 10

Malé, Maldives — The Economic Ministry of Maldives has announced that they will be accepting work permit fees without imposing a fine until March 10. 

Strict changes have been noted in the new regulations set by the Ministry regarding the work permit. This contains of the inclusion of a verification process.

While the government began issuing work permits on February 15, there has been a newly added verification process that needs to be completed through the Xpat online service system of Maldives.

In addition to this, under the new regulations, the employers of the expatriate must present the expatriate worker to the Ministry as soon as the verification process is completed. 

The Ministry instructed that the verification services can be obtained from the time of entry into the Maldives till the expatriate obtains their work permit. Ministry also stated that the expatriate can only be employed upon the issuance of the work permit and that the work permit, in turn, will only be issued when the required procedures are completed. 

The Ministry also informed that all the expatriates who arrive to Maldives are required to obtain a work permit and visa within 15 days of their arrival to the Maldives.
