GA. Maamendhoo, Maldives – Police has completed their investigation of the teenage boy, Ahmed Udhayyu’s murder due to gang violence in GA. Maamendhoo and sent the case to PG on 8 March 2021.
Police requested PG to prosecute three adults and one juvenile in for Udhayyu’s murder.
The 17 year-old was stabbed to death in GA. Maamendhoo, and his body was sent to Medical College Hospital in Trivandrum, India on February 15, 2021 and returned to Maldives on February 18. Police had earlier stated that Udhayyu’s body was to be examined to identify the exact cause of death as well as to gain information relevant to any questions that may be posed during the investigation and trial into the murder.
Police had previously arrested a total of five suspects over the stabbing, including three men, aged 18, 23 and 27, arrested under a court order and two local males, aged 18 and 25, taken into shortly after the initial arrests.
As per local media reports, the 17-year-old was attacked and killed over a dispute between two island gangs. News outlet Mihaaru reported that the juvenile was murdered in the second violent altercation which took place on Maamendhoo last week, in retaliation for a fight in which the minor had participated in.
