Three suspects remanded for teen murder

Malé, Maldives – Criminal Court sets remand of 30 days for three suspects for the violent murder of teenage boy, Ahmed Udhayyu in GA. Maamendhoo.

Three adults and one juvenile are being prosecuted for this case. The adults prosecuted at the Criminal Court of Maldives are Ahmed Shameem, Rihifarudhaa, Bilaymaage, Sharaf Rasheed and Gulfaamuge, Mohamed Mazin of GA. Maamendhoo.

The underage suspect is being prosecuted at the Juvenile Court.

The suspects are charged with assault, threats and assault using a dangerous weapon. The prosecutor of the case Ahmed Farash Shakir requested remand until sentencing, however, presiding Judge Hussain Faiz Rashad extended remand by 30 days.

The 17 year-old was stabbed to death in GA. Maamendhoo, and his body was sent to Medical College Hospital in Trivandrum, India on February 15, for postmortem to determine the cause of death and to find any other information that may aid the prosecution of the case.

As per local media reports, the 17-year-old was attacked and killed over a dispute between two island gangs. News outlet Mihaaru reported that the juvenile was murdered in the second violent altercation which took place on Maamendhoo last week, in retaliation for a fight in which the minor had participated in.
