Malé, Maldives – The Vice President of the opposition Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Ghassaan Maumoon has taken a jab at the incumbent government lead by Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) amidst the upcoming local council elections, stating that MDP only comes to power each time by playing with the expectations of the public.
He detailed his statement claiming that MDP plays with the intentions of the public and makes unachievable promises, during his speech at the campaign launching ceremony of council candidate for Villimalé constituency Nahula Ali.
Ghassan went on to say that while big promises were made by MDP, what can be observed now is that promises have been left unfulfilled and that the country is being steered in another direction than what was promised.
He further added that the rate of corruption is also extremely high and that the government is not being transparent with the public regarding the foreign aid received by the country so far, while also allowing mockery of Islam, with no action being taken against those who do so.
However, no comeback has been made by MDP regarding the comments of Ghassan as of yet.
