Malé, Maldives – Former Attorney General and Secretary-General of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Dhiyana Saeedh has stated that creating different positions simply for the purpose of employing his family members is an unprofessional and unacceptable act.

The criticism from Dhiyana towards the President comes after the former Acting Managing Director of MACL, Moosa Solih was assigned as a Consultant for the Regional Airport Company (RAC) established under an executive order of the President to manage regional airports in the Maldives.

Moosa Solih is the elder brother of current President Ibrahim Solih and had retired from MACL after 39 years of service for the company. Moosa Solih was the his position as the acting MD of MACL when he retired after he was assigned to the position on November 15, 2018 during President Solih’s presidency.

Dhiyana tweeted regarding this stating that creating job positions in the name of consultant or advisor simply for the purpose of employing the Presidents family members is an unprofessional and unacceptable act. While noting that “nepotism” was the hallmark during former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s presidency, Dhiyana stated that its a shame that the country has to face the same situation again while Maldivian Democratic Party was in power.

Before MDP became the ruling party, the party used to criticize President Maumoon’s administration stating that he had given his family members high governmental positions. However, the citizens are now speaking about how the ruling MDP party is now using their power to provide job positions for their family members just as how things were in the Maldives before.
