Malé, Maldives – Member of Parliament representing the people of Addu Meedhoo constituency Rozaina Adam, has stated that the government cannot be blamed for the actions of specific people.
Rozaina said this at a time, when former President of Maldives and current Speaker of Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed claimed that the government has participated in the corruption scandal involving ventilators which were procured by the state and that Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) does not wish to stand with a thieving government.
In her response, Rozaina said that when it is said that the government participated in the theft it reflects onto the entire government and stressed that such generalization can only be done if the government became an accomplice in hiding the crimes.
It cannot be generalized on the government because the government has called onto investigate the matter.

When the Prosecutor General decided to stand with his earlier decision in not prosecuting the people involved in the ventilator scandal, Speaker Nasheed, along with some Parliament Members of MDP called out for the removal of PG Shameem and the President of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Mariyam Shiuna from their positions.
According to ACC, the PG office had decided to uphold their earlier decision to not go ahead with the prosecution of the 11 individuals involved in the case including the then Minister of Health Abdullah Ameen, stating that there was no new reason for changing PGs earlier stance on the case. They added that their review of the case submitted by ACC revealed no new elements that provide the basis for prosecuting those involved.
