MDP President Nasheed requests recount of four districts of Malé

Malé, Maldives – The President of Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) Mohamed Nasheed has requested for the recount of ballots for 4 districts of capital city Malé.

In the press conference regarding Local Council Elections held yesterday, Nasheed made this request due to losses by very small margins to Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) candidates. The requested districts are Medhu Henveyru (T-3), Henveyru Dhekunu (T-4), Machangolhi Uthuru (T-10), and Maafannu Hulhangu (T-15) districts.

As per the vote counts; Medhu Henveyru (T-3) was won by Adam Rameez (PPM) by 243 votes against Ismail Hussain (MDP) 230 votes, Henveyru Dhekunu (T-4) was won by Fathumath Shamnaz Ali Saleem (PPM) with 402 votes against Aminath Rishfa Ahmed (MDP) 393 votes, Machangolhi Uthuru (T-10) was won by Saeeda Rasheed (PPM) with 338 votes against Lirgam Waheed (MDP) 315 votes and lastly Maafannu Hulhangu (T-15) was won by Hassan Nazim (PPM) with 324 votes against Mohamed Areesh (MDP) 298 votes.

Nasheed conceded the rest of the seats not won by MDP including the mayoral seat of Malé city.
