Maalhos under monitoring status after two tourists test positive for Covid-19

B. Atoll, Maldives – B. Maalhos has been placed under monitoring by Health Protection Agency (HPA) after two tourists staying in the island tested positive for Covid-19.

The tourists tested positive for Covid-19 in their PCR test before departure.

Maalhos Local Council informs that the two tourists were staying at Madifinolhu Guesthouse and had direct contact with 7 individuals.

HPA is now contact tracing in the island and taking random samples.

The statistics released by HPA reveals that out of the 124 cases new cases recorded yesterday, 78 were from the Malé area, while 33 cases were recorded from inhabited islands. The figures also included the 12 new found cases from operational resorts and 1 case from a live aboard which brought up the total active cases in the country to 2,585.

Meanwhile, Covid-19 vaccination campaign is ongoing in the island nation with an effort to vaccinate entire eligible resident population in the coming months. Maldives also intends to vaccinate tourists with the “Visit, Vaccinate, Vacation” program.

Tourism Minister of Maldives, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom recently said that ninety percent of employees in the tourism industry of the island nation are vaccinated with the first dose against Covid-19 virus.

The vaccination program began for tourism industry workers on February 4th of 2021 in an effort to create a safe environment for travellers and industry personnel.
