Malé, Maldives – Health Protection Agency (HPA) has reported that a 62 year old has passed away due to Covid-19.
HPA reported that the individual was brought to ADK Hospitals emergency room and was declared as dead at 18:52 marking the 114th casualty from the island nation and todays second death.
HPA has previously reported that a 36 year old Nepali male admitted in Laamu Covid-19 Management Facility was declared dead at 02:00 today.
Maldives is currently going through the worst wave of Covid-19 that has hit the country since the pandemic. Cases are escalating in the islands with limited infrastructure to handle treatment, and authorities rushing to increase capacity in both Malé and islands.
According to statistics released by Health Protection Agency (HPA), it was detailed that out of the 1,187 cases recorded yesterday, 965 were from the Malé area, while 214 cases were recorded from inhabited islands. The figures also included 02 case from live aboard which brought up the total active cases in the country to 18,843.With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the country has reached 48,608 out of which 29,644 patients have made full recoveries, as of 18:00 of May 19, 2021.
