Malé, Maldives – Maldives Police Service arrested an intoxicated local who was on drugs at Malé ‘Viyafaaraveringe Miskiy’ last night.
Maldives Police Service reported that the 34 year old brought into custody at 1:30 last night was intoxicated at the time of the arrest.
Another person was arrested in the same condition last Sunday. This was also at the same mosque in Malé.
While mosques in Malé have been closed for mass prayers due to the Covid-19 situation in Malé, Police have been receiving several reports of people using drugs in mosques and sleeping there.
Police said that they routinely check for such people at mosques, who are violating the etiquette to be followed in the mosque. They said that while some people are advised against it and sent off, some are arrested and brought into custody in necessary situations.
