Malé, Maldives – The Maldives Utility Regulatory Authority has informed STELCO to complete the Malé-Hulhumalé interconnection and entirely stop the usage of temporary generators in Malé by 15 August 2021.

The Authority, in their statement, referred to complaints made by residents of Malé who face difficulties due to the sounds, vibrations and smokes generated by the temporary generators, placed in residential areas of the capital city. The temporary generators are placed due to the increasing population and demand for electricity.

While electricity supplier STELCO provides a necessary service, the regulatory authority has recommended to minimize difficulty to residents.

The Utility Regulatory Authority has also ordered to complete the Malé-Hulhumalé interconnection and completely by 31 July 2021 and stop the usage of temporary generators in Malé by 15 August 2021.
