Malé, Maldives – The current head of the opposition coalition Abdul-Raheem Abdullah on Thursday night, advised Addu PPM councillors to take the opinion of the citizens into account when making decisions that concern the public.
The statement from the opposition coalition comes while several concerns have arised following the secret meeting held by Addu City Council, in which they passed to claim 42 pieces of land around Addu Equatorial Hospital. Councillor for Hulhudhoo Constituency Hussain Faiz is the only councillor who voted against the decision. Councillor for Meedhoo Constituency did not take part in the vote.
Councillor of Feydhoo Maadhela Constituency Mohamed Faisal proposed to keep the meeting secret. Councillor of Meedhoo Constituency Aminath Saliha, Councillor of Hulhudhoo Constituency Hussain Faiz and Councillor of Hithadhoo Maamendhoo Constituency Aminath Adhala voted against it. However, Councillor Faisal’s motion was passed with the vote of the remaining councillors.
Replying to a question on Clubhouse regarding the matter, Abdul-Raheem Abdullah said that working to get income after depriving the citizens of their rights is not something the opposition coalition encourages and that the policy of the opposition is to work for the benefit of the citizens.
In addition to this, Abdul-Raheem Abdullah said that they are currently clarifying the information received regarding the Addu City Council meeting and that the coalition will release a statement on the matter without any further delays.
We will continue to advise the council to get the opinion of the citizens before making a decision that concerns then, in order to avoid such incidents in the future.

He also added that they have continued to advise them to get the opinion of the citizens before making decisions, since day 1. He noted that getting income after depriving the citizens of their rights is not in the vision of PPM or Former President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayyoom.
