May Terror Attack: Court grants remand till sentencing for three suspects

Male’, Maldives – Maldives Police Service (MPS) informs that this Wednesday, the Court granted remand till sentencing for three accused individuals of the terror attack against Speaker Mohamed Nasheed on May 06.

MPS revealed that three individuals remanded till sentencing are Mujaz Ahmed, Thahumeen Ahmed and Adhuham Ahmed Rasheed while a fourth suspect, Ali Haisham was remanded for 30 days.

Commissioner of Maldives Police Service, Mohamed Hameed also revealed this Wednesday, that they have submitted the investigation on the first four accused individuals of the terror attack against Speaker Mohamed Nasheed on May 06 to the Prosecutor General’s Office. The investigation is ongoing for the remaining suspects as well.

Special Envoy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Abbas Faiz earlier praised the Police investigation regarding May 6 terror attack against  Speaker Nasheed and stated that it is a strong case and that it can be prosecuted to the fullest extend.

Police investigation so far is thorough and considered all angles. That and the commendable effort of the Prosecutor’s Office will create a strong case for trial.

Mid-May, President Solih appointed a British Special Envoy, Abbas Faiz to monitor the investigation, prosecution and trial of the terrorist attack that took place on May 6th against the Speaker of Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed. He is required to ensure that all stages of the investigation prosecution and trial of the alleged perpetrators, including any related and necessary inquiries are according to the international best practice and national laws. This is to ensure the integrity of this investigation.
