Education Ministry informs school staff to get vaccinated before new academic year

Malé, Maldives – The Education Ministry informed local schools to ensure that all their staff has completed both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine prior to the new academic year.

The Education Ministry on Monday, sent a letter to the management of all the schools, stating that they highly encourage all school staff to get fully vaccinated before the new academic year, as to allow for schools to reopen in the normal situation.

The Ministry said that they have discussed with the relevant authorities and are arranging a more convenient path for those working in the education sector who have yet to received the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. They added that this implies for those who have not received the first dose as well.

In addition to this, the ministry requested any employees who are unable to receive the Covid-19 vaccine for any reason, to inform Health Protection Agency and get a statement from the authority, which will be submitted to the respective school.

While it has been over four months since the schools were closed due to the detection of Covid-19 in the islands, a new academic year is set to begin this August 10.
