Five teachers temporarily isolated from students for failure to vaccinate

Malé, Maldives – Education Ministry today informed that five teachers from three schools have been isolated from all student related activities for failure to administer two doses of Covid-19 vaccine.

The Permanent Secretary of Education Ministry Ahmed Ali said that a deadline was set for teachers to get inoculated with the Covid-19 vaccine. The educators were formally informed by the Ministry of Education to get vaccinated either with the first or second dose before yesterday, 10 August.

Upon the deadline, three schools reported five teachers for failure to meet the vaccine requirements. Education Ministry then activated a protocol to remove the unvaccinated teachers from all student related activities.

In an effort to curb the Covid-19 and protect the students, Education Ministry has taken multiple strict measures, including banning all unvaccinated adults from entering school premises across the Maldives. The Ministry also informed schools on 26 July 2021, informed local schools to ensure that all their staff has completed both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine prior to the new academic year.

The Education Ministry is also preparing to vaccinate students across the island nation with two doses of Pfizer vaccine. The Government of Maldives has decided to administer the children between the ages of 12 to 17 with Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine, that the US and Covax facility donated to the Maldives.
