Male’, Maldives – A Maldivian has passed away from Covid-19 in Sri Lanka.

While the Foreign Ministry of Maldives informed that the High Commission of Maldives in Sri Lanka provided the deceased’s family with the consular services they require, the Ministry urged all Maldivians currently residing in Sri Lanka to adhere to the safety guidelines set out by the Sri Lankan government due to the worsening Covid-19 situation in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka was placed on lockdown once again on August 21, after over 3,000 people tested positive for COVID-19 within a day. The number of deaths in Sri Lanka has also increased over the past days, with the country having recorded over 8,000 Covid-19 fatalities since the pandemic began.
