Court releases man arrested for threatening to hijack Maldivian plane

Fuvahmulah, Maldives – The Fuvahmulah Magistrate Court on Wednesday released the man arrested for threatening to hijack Maldivian plane.

The 34 year old Maldivian male was arrested under court warrant on the morning of 31 August, after he repeatedly threatened to hijack a Maldivian plane set to report from Fuvahmulah City to the capital city Malé at 20:55 on 30 August 2021.

The domestic flight was delayed until 23:30 after the case was reported to the police 5 minutes before departure.

Maldives Police informs that the man was released by the court under a set of conditions that they did not specify.

The national airline of Maldives, Maldivian, has recently faced a previous incident where a laser light was pointed at Maldivian’s flight Q2-106 landing at the southernmost Gan International Airport. The incident is being investigated by relevant authorities.
