Malé, Maldives – The internal elections have commenced for ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) this morning.
The largest internal party elections commenced at 09:00 and will end at 17:00. While 455 positions are being filled, 165 won the seats by default.
Voting is taking place across Maldives except for Th. Guraidhoo which is on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation. In addition, MDP has opened avenues for election related complaints.
Pundits say that this election will determine the popularity of Speaker Mohamed Nasheed against incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih within MDP, amid political factions allegedly forming in the ruling party.
