Malé, Maldives – The President today reinstated Dhapparu into the HA. Filladhoo jurisdiction.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih released a decree on Wednesday nullifying the decree released on 29 August 2021 to remove the connected half of Dhapparu from Filladhoo jurisdiction without any consultation with Filladhoo.

Following the President’s decree in August a petition was signed under the #SaveDhapparu campaign and submitted at the Parliament of the Maldives and the President’s Office.

Taking into consideration the position of Filladhoo islanders, President Solih has effective today Dhapparu reinstated into the HA. Filladhoo jurisdiction.

Filladhoo Island Council President Fathuhulla Hassan previously said that none of the islanders of Filladhoo consents to the removal of Dhapparu which is a connected half of Filladhoo to be removed from their island. He added that regardless of how the islanders use the other half of the island, every island wants to be land rich.

President’s Office had since acknowledged the lack of consultation with the council regarding the project and stated that the proposed Dhapparu project was to develop the island for real-estate tourism, with the aim to create a new tourist product in the Maldives.
