Malé, Maldives – The Maldives Police today stated that Shah Alom Mia under arrest for the murder of local businessman Mahmood Abu Bakr (57) has confessed to the crime.

The migrant worker from Bangladesh, Shah Alom Mia (29), common name Salim, was employed as a caretaker of an elderly person on the island.

Police state that the suspect has admitted to the murder of Abu Bakr, inflicting over 30 wounds to the deceased’s body. Salim has also confessed to some other crimes.

The Police have collected CCTV evidence depicting Salim carrying the body of the victim on his shoulder at 02:00. At this time Salim is the only person to be observed in the CCTV footage of the island.

Further, a theft case involving the murder suspect is currently in progress according to the police.
