COVID-19: Death toll rises to 257 with fatality from Addu City

Addu City, Maldives – The Covid-19 death toll has risen to 257 in the Maldives with the passing of an elderly man admitted at the Addu Covid Management Facility.

The 83 year old Maldivian man passed away at 03:00.

As of 18:00 on Thursday, the Southernmost city of Maldives reported 7 new cases with 6 new positive cases recorded in Hithadhoo and 1 in Maradhoo. The rest of Addu City has reported no positive cases. There are 154 active cases with 2 hospitalized. 12 deaths have been reported from Addu City since the Covid-19 pandemic started.

Addu City currently remains the region under Covid-19 monitoring measures for the longest time in the Maldives.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) placed Addu City’s connected islands, Hithadhoo, Feydhoo, Maradhoo and Maradhoo Feydhoo under monitoring on 28 August 2021, with curfew imposed starting 29 August 2021. Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo in Addu City were placed under monitoring on 4 September 2021.
