Maldives records 3rd Covid-19 death today with fatality from Addu City

Addu City, Maldives – Health Protection Agency (HPA) has reported a third Covid-19 related death, escalating the total fatalities in the Maldives to 268.

The most recent Covid-19 fatality was the passing of a 76 year old man admitted at the Addu Covid-19 management facility at 09:00.

Three hours prior to this, at 06:04 a 79 year old male hospitalized at the Laamu Covid management facility passed away, while a 63 year old woman passed at 06:16 at the capital Malé, at the Hulhumalé Covid management facility.

All the casualties reported today are Maldivians.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) detailed that new daily cases nationwide has surpassed 2,000 mark.

Of the 2,000 new cases, 1,219 were from the Malé area, while 547 cases were recorded from inhabited islands. The figures also revealed that 89 new cases were found from operational resorts with 4 from live aboards, adding up to 9,574 active cases in the country.

With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in Maldives has reached 108,732 out of which 98,880 patients have made full recoveries, as of Wednesday, 19 January 2022.
