Malé, Maldives – Former President and current Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed said on Saturday that the “India Out” campaign is a threat to the independence and sovereignty of the Maldives.

Speaker Nasheed said this while speaking at an event for the by-election campaign for the Lh. Kurendhoo Council Presidency.

Nasheed stated that the biggest reason for the independence of Maldives is the close relationships with neighbouring nations and the opposition-lead “India Out” campaign will throw Maldives in danger.

Noone else has undertaken such a dangerous [campaign] to the sovereignty of the Maldives. President Yameen is doing this purposefully [in a bid for power].

Urging the public to look back into the Maldivian history, Speaker Nasheed requested opposition PPM members to stop supporting the party and participating in the dangerous campaign.
