Hulhumeedhoo Rehab Centre “Vilunu” to treat patients starting next week

Addu City, Maldives – Ministry of Health stated on Wednesday that the first batch of 20 patients will start receiving treatment at the newly opened Hulhumeedhoo Drug Rehablitation and Treatment Center “Vilunu.”

The Ministry states that National Drug Agency (NDA) is presently preparing for the pre-treatment assessments of substance users.

The drug treatment rehabilitation facility in the country’s southern region has the capacity to house 60 individuals and is equipped to administer rehabilitation treatment programs that were structured with the expertise of World Health Organization consultants (WHO).

“Vilunu” rehabilitation centre offers a wide range of treatments including, residential and community rehabilitation treatments along with reintegration programs for vulnerable communities.

The facility, jointly funded by the Maldivian government (MVR 7.1 million) and the government of India (MVR 7.9 million) was opened on 27 March 2022 by the Minister of External Affairs of India Dr S. Jaishankar and Maldives Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid.
