Malé, Maldives – Twenty six specialist doctors are scheduled to arrive in the Maldives next month.
Speaking at the questioning session by the Maldives Parliment earlier today, Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem stated that 26 doctors are scheduled to arrive in the Maldives in May 2022.
The turnover rate for foreign doctors it higher than recruitment during the pandemic … resulting in multiple unfilled positions.
Minister Naseem further highlighted that there is much difficulty in recruiting doctors from the South Asian region.
The Government of Maldives approached Cuba in November 2021 to resolve the issue of specialist doctors. Minister Naseem at the time stated that 45 doctors were needed to fill the gap. Minister Naseem also at the time stated that the government will also be requesting Bangladeshi assistance for recruitment.
