Malé, Maldives – The Education Ministry has closed the case of sexual abuse of a 4-year-old at a Malé school due to insufficient evidence.

In a statement released today, the school stated that Education Ministry has closed the case since the Prosecutor General’s Office has decided against filing charges against the suspect arrested on 1 November 2021.

The school further added that the school’s priority has always been its student in every phase of this case and measures are in place to ensure the safety of students.

October 16, a 4 year old student was sexually abused at a school in the capital city Malé. The child identified the perpetrator as a female janitorial staff fondly referred to by students as “toilet dhatha” who take young children to the toilet at the school.

The Galolhu School on October 30 decided to suspend all janitorial staff amid public outrage and installed CCTV cameras in 18 locations.
