Malé, Maldives – Ahmed Shareef, Managing Director of State Electric Company, stated on Tuesday that power cuts will be scheduled in 30 minute intervals across the capital city Malé for the next two days.

The capital city faced unannounced power outages earlier today, reportedly due to damage to a feeder during road development. The utility provider has since found a temporary solution to the issue but will replace the electrical feeder cable for a more permanent solution. This work is expected to last two days.

While STELCO collaborates with the Malé City Council to solve the issue, the city’s electricity is being provided through ten substations, which may result in overload. To tackle this, STELCO is planning to cut electricity by divisions for 30 minutes.
