Malé, Maldives – Jumhooree Party (JP) has announced that the party will contest in the upcoming Presidential Election of the Maldives in 2023.
Secretary General of the Party Ali Arif confirmed the party’s intentions to contest in the election to local media outlet “adduLIVE”, and further detailed that all members of the party are eligible to contest for the party’s ticket. Should more than one individual express interest to run for President on the party’s ticket, the final decision would be made by the party’s council, he said.
“If it comes to forming a coalition, the final decision by the party would be made as per the regulations of the party, with advice from the party’s council,” Arif detailed.
JP’s announcement comes shortly after President of the Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih also announced his candidacy for the Presidential Elections.
