GA. Villingili, Maldives – A large number of alcohol products confiscated from tourist passengers at the Kooddoo Airport have been discarded in the yard of GA. Villingili police station yesterday.
Police reports that 155 bottles of liquor and 44 cans of beer have been destroyed in this undertaking. These items were seized from different tourists who have been at the Kooddoo Airport from the 8th of May till the 6th of June this year, via MNDF personnel and handed over to the police authorities.
According to the police, the disposal took place aptly before the relevant committee established to superintend such cases, in accordance with the said committee’s regulations.
Tourists are not allowed to carry alcoholic products into the Maldives under Customs regulations and are temporarily confiscated at checkpoints on arrival at the airport. Unattended items of passengers after departure are later destroyed by the respective authorities.
