Addu City, Maldives – Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology Aminath Shauna has traveled to Addu City on an official trip, to observe the progress of projects being carried out by the Ministry.
As part of her trip, Shauna has visited various project work sites of the Ministry, including the waste management centre in Hulhu-Meedhoo, where she met and spoke with the employees of the centre and observed the progress.
Additionally, the Minister also visited the area allocated for solar PV instalment as part of the ASPIRE project, as well as the location allocated to install floating solar near Hulhu-Meedhoo mid harbour.
Another significant project spearheaded by the Ministry is the waste-to-energy project at the central powerhouse of Addu. While installation of the system is currently underway, the Waste to Energy Plant is designed to burn 50 tonnes of waste a day to produce 1.5 megawatts of energy.
In Addition to this a hazardous and chemical waste storage and management centre is also in the plans for Addu City.
