Malé, Maldives – Maldives Immigration on Thursday reported a record number of passports issued in one day with 596 passports issued by midnight.
The immigration department extended working hours until 00:00 last night with a surge in demand due to the Eid holidays starting today. The department had previously increased working hours ahead of the holiday season to 21:30 since mid-June.
The department reports that passport applications have jumped from 200 to 800 submissions daily in the past few weeks.
Application for Dhivehi (Maldivian) Passport shall be submitted via Imuga, the online platform for immigration services, from 22nd July 2020. Application submission and passport collection are also available through regional centres.
